Alright, here’s where the fun really begins. πŸ™‚

Lesson 6 in this series is where the rubber hits the road.

Everything that came before this was a way to prepare the soil, a way to bring you to this glorious point —> GETTING YOUR “KA-CHING” ON, MAKING SOME MONEY!

Now, why do things this way?

Why do we have to put all this work and value upfront?

Why can’t we just make a product and sell it right away?

Simple.. People have a greater propensity to buy from those they know, like, and trust.

End of story (and in reality, it’s the whole story).

I’m a big believer in the “jab, jab, jab, right hook” method of marketing (thanks Gary Vee!).

It’s a simple formula:

Help. Give. Share. Then ask.

So how do you do that?

Well, now that you have a small following of those that know, like, and trust you, one of the easiest and fastest ways to augment your income is to promote other people’s products as an affiliate – products that are relevant,Β trustworthy, and reliable. (Commit those three words to memory. They will serve you well for years and years to come.)

Now, let’s put a question on the table here:

“Chris, this all sounds great, but does it really work?”

Easy answer… Yes.

I’ve personally made thousands and thousands of dollars (and some of my personal friends and mentors have made millions and millions!) as an affiliate, and it’s only something that I’ve done on the side, in my free time.

Honestly, I’ve never even taken it that seriously! And yet, those were my results.

Sure, affiliate marketing is not as glamorous as being the star behind your own product(s), but here’s a short list of some of the rock solid benefits that a crash course education in affiliate marketing can do for you, beyond just giving you a nice payout and some additional income.

Here’s the list:

1.) You Get a Real-Life Education and a Front Row Seat

Being an affiliate of an already successful product will give you deep insight into what it takes to put together, market, and sell a product online.

Think about it..

If you can’t sell an already proven and successful product online, how and when will you learn to sell your own?

It takes practice, trial and error, and personal growth. There’s no way around that.

And honestly, the process is awesome (especially if you love learning).

There’s truly nothing like having a front row seat to business success. It shows you a clear path for what you yourself need to do, and how to do it.

Model what works. Reap the benefits.

2.) You Get Direct Exposure to the Tricks of the Trade

Being an affiliate of a product that has paved a way in the marketplace that you’re interested in will expose you to good copywriting, smart layout, conversion-centric funnel design, expert positioning, and exemplary product delivery.

All. Super. Important.

And how will you come to know all of the above? Again, simple.. πŸ™‚

Before you attempt to promote anyone else’s product(s), you absolutely must first and foremost be a consumer of that product.

Don’t blindly promote. It’s bad form, and it will end up biting you in the you-know-where down the line.

Open your wallet, go through the sales funnel, make the purchase, and see what’s what at every step of the way.

Take screenshots (I personally use Droplr), record screencasts (I use SnagIt), pay attention, and read EVERY word of the copy on EVERY single page of the process (except for the fine print and legalese, unless you like that kind of stuff).

So why should you do all this? Once again, simple..

Your reputation is on the line here!

People will forever remember you if things go wrong, but on the glamorous flip-side, they’ll praise you if things go right.

So do your due diligence and only promote products that you personally feel proud of and are unhesitant to stake your reputation on.

3.) You Earn Niche Recognition and Good-Vibe Reciprocation

If you start to gain traction and momentum as a good and successful affiliate, you’ll start to get noticed in the industry and niche you operate in.

And when it comes time to finally promote your own products (or services), guess who’ll be there to promote with and for you?

You guessed it: all the people that you supported beforehand with your various affiliate promotions.

It’s the simple (but beautiful) law of reciprocity at play. No magic. Just human psychology.

And honestly, I could go on and on..

But suffice it to say, being an affiliate has taught me A LOT about what it takes to create, market, and sell products online.

After the above lessons have been well established in your psyche and start to resonate with you at a visceral level, you’ll be that much more qualified to create and release your own products into the world.

Don’t put the cart before the horse though.

Make sure to give yourself at least a little time to get this real world education under your belt first.
